Inside Our Client's Barking Facility: A Modern Workplace
The logistics company we're recruiting for isn't just another warehouse. Their Barking IG11 facility is a benchmark for modern, efficient, and safe material handling in London. Operating 24/7 during peak seasons, the site handles goods for several major high-street retailers, meaning the work is varied, fast-paced, and crucial to the UK supply chain.
As a driver here, you'll be working with a fleet of well-maintained, late-model forklifts—predominantly Jungheinrich and Crown equipment. The warehouse management system (WMS) is state-of-the-art, utilising voice-picking and RF scanning technology to achieve a 99.8% picking accuracy rate. You won't be working in the dark; the facility is brightly lit, temperature-controlled in key areas, and consistently rated highly for staff satisfaction in internal surveys.
A Real-World Scenario You Might Encounter:
Your task: a priority inbound. Three articulated lorries have just arrived with a mixed load of ambient, chilled, and non-food items. Using your Counterbalance licence, you'll unload the pallets, scan each one into the WMS via handheld terminal, and then—using your Reach Truck skills—strategically place the chilled goods into the 12-meter high narrow-aisle racking in the climate-controlled section, all while coordinating with the warehouse clerk to update live inventory levels.
This level of integrated operation is why candidates with dual licences and a keen eye for detail excel here.
Beyond the Driver's Seat: Your Career Pathway
This role is a starting point. Recruitment Agency London and our client are committed to internal development. We've seen numerous drivers who started on a temp contract progress into supervisory and managerial positions within 18-24 months.
Stage 1: Proficient Operator (Months 0-6)
Master the core duties, demonstrate impeccable safety, and become efficient with the client's specific WMS and procedures. You may undergo additional certified training, such as Bendi or PPT (Pedestrian Pallet Truck) operation, at no cost.
- Consistently hit daily movement targets
- Zero safety incidents or damage reports
Stage 2: Mentor & Lead Driver (Months 6-12)
Take on additional responsibility. This could involve assisting with new starter inductions, performing basic machinery checks, or helping the shift supervisor with workload planning. Your pay rate is reviewed, and you become a key point of contact for the agency and client.
- Guide new temporary staff on site protocols
- Participate in weekly team briefings
Stage 3: Supervisor & Beyond (Year 1+)
Proven reliability and initiative open doors. You'll be first in line for permanent Warehouse Team Leader or Shift Coordinator positions. The client has a well-documented track record of promoting from within, and we provide support with CV development and interview preparation for these senior roles.
- Formal application for permanent staff roles
- Salary increase and company benefits package
