Key Responsibilities & Duties
In this dual-focus role, you will be the heartbeat of the practice, ensuring smooth clinical operations and delivering a five-star patient experience.
- Prepare surgeries for a variety of dental procedures, ensuring all instruments are sterilised and ready (following strict CQC guidelines).
- Provide chair-side assistance to dentists and hygienists, anticipating needs and maintaining a calm, supportive environment for patients.
- Manage infection control protocols, including the decontamination of equipment and maintenance of clinical stock levels.
- Record accurate patient notes and clinical data using the practice's software system (software training provided).
- Provide clear post-operative care instructions and reassurance to patients, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
- Manage the practice diary efficiently, booking appointments, sending reminders, and minimising gaps in the schedule.
- Welcome patients in person and over the phone, handling enquiries, confirming appointments, and managing patient registrations.
- Process private payments and handle insurance claims, ensuring accurate billing and financial administration.
- Maintain a tidy, welcoming reception area and manage incoming post and deliveries.
- Act as a liaison between patients, clinicians, and other staff, ensuring clear communication across the practice.
Essential Skills & Requirements
- Proven Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a Dental Nurse role (GDC registration preferred but not essential for the right candidate) OR significant experience as a Medical Receptionist or similar Office Assistant role within a healthcare setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Confidence using practice management software (e.g., SOE, Exact, Software of Excellence) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication, a calm and friendly telephone manner, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.
- Organisational Prowess: Outstanding time-management, the ability to prioritise a busy workload, and impeccable attention to detail – skills that would also be valued in a Payroll Administrator or other administrative positions.
