Utilise RF scanners and pick sheets to accurately select products from warehouse locations according to customer orders. Maintain a 99.8%+ accuracy rate to minimise errors and returns.

Meet and exceed daily picking targets and lines-per-hour (LPH) rates. Work efficiently to ensure dispatch deadlines are met, contributing to the overall success of the logistics operation.
Assist with periodic stock counts, report any discrepancies or damaged goods, and help maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in the picking aisles.
Work cohesively with other pickers, packers, and the Warehouse Manager to ensure a smooth workflow. Support colleagues during peak periods and communicate effectively with team leaders.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can I start after applying?
For candidates with the right experience who are immediately available, the process can be incredibly fast. We have placed individuals within 24-48 hours of initial contact. The key is having your documentation ready (right to work, ID) and being flexible for an interview at short notice.
What is the typical shift pattern for this Order Picker role?
Shifts vary by client, but common patterns in Liverpool L24 include:
Early Shift: 6am - 2pm
Late Shift: 2pm - 10pm
Night Shift: 10pm - 6am
Some roles also offer 4-on-4-off patterns. We discuss your availability during screening to match you with suitable shifts. Overtime is often available at enhanced rates.
Do I need my own safety footwear and hi-vis clothing?
Most of our client sites in Liverpool provide the necessary PPE, including hi-vis vests/jackets. Safety footwear (steel-toe cap boots) is usually a mandatory requirement, but policies differ. Some sites provide them, others require you to supply your own compliant footwear. We will clarify this requirement specific to your placement before you start.

A Day in the Life of an Order Picker in Liverpool L24
To give you a genuine insight into what the role entails, let’s walk through a typical early shift at one of our major client sites in Speke. Understanding the daily rhythm, technology used, and team dynamics can help you decide if this is the right fit for you.
The Shift Breakdown: From Clock-In to Clock-Out
Arrival & Induction
You arrive at the secure, modern distribution centre, scan your ID badge at the gate, and proceed to the locker room. New starters receive a concise 15-minute briefing from the Warehouse Manager or team leader, covering daily targets, any specific high-priority orders, and safety reminders. You collect your RF scanner gun and charging pod from the charging station.
First Picking Wave
At your assigned station, your scanner displays your first batch of orders. The system uses intelligent 'batch picking' logic, grouping items that are located near each other to minimise walking distance. You navigate the wide, well-lit aisles—some several hundred feet long—locating products by their unique bin location codes. The scanner confirms each pick with an audible beep. The initial hour is often the most productive, setting the pace for the day.

Break & Replenishment
After a busy morning, the team takes a coordinated 15-minute break. This is also a key time for 'replen' activities. If you encounter a low-stock location, you notify a replenishment operative via the scanner system. You might assist by moving a partial pallet to the 'forward pick' location from reserve storage, ensuring the next shift has everything they need. Teamwork here is crucial for maintaining flow.
Peak Productivity & Problem-Solving
The warehouse management system (WMS) pushes through the bulk of the day's orders. You’re in a rhythm, but attention to detail remains critical. You might encounter a discrepancy—a barcode that won’t scan or an item that looks damaged. The correct procedure is to flag it immediately on your scanner and place it in a designated 'problem cage' for quality control to inspect. This proactive approach is valued by employers and reduces errors down the line.
End of Shift & Handover
As your shift concludes, you return your scanner to charge and deliver your last full trolley (or 'cage') to the dispatch marshalling area. You may have a quick debrief with your team leader, who can give you feedback on your pick accuracy rate and lines-per-hour (LPH) performance—metrics that are often visible in real-time to management. Leaving your work area tidy and reporting any equipment issues completes the professional handover to the late shift.
Technology You'll Master
Modern warehouses are tech-driven. Here’s the equipment you'll become proficient with:
-
RF Scanners/Guns: Your primary tool. Provides pick lists, confirms locations, and updates inventory in real-time.
-
Warehouse Management System (WMS): The brain behind operations. It optimises your route and prioritises orders.
-
Powered Pallet Trucks & PPTs: For moving bulkier items or completed cages. Training is provided.
-
Voice-Picking Headsets (on some sites): Hands-free technology that verbally instructs you on picks, increasing speed and safety.
Pro Tip: Employers highly value candidates who are comfortable with this technology. If you're new to RF scanners, emphasise your quick learning ability and familiarity with smartphones or touch-screen devices during your interview.
From Order Picker to Supervisor: A Real Career Pathway
This isn't just a temporary job. For motivated individuals, it's a launchpad. Here’s how one of our placed candidates progressed within 18 months.
Case Study: Mark's Journey
Starting Point (March 2025): Mark applied to us with 8 months of previous picking experience. He was placed as a temporary Order Picker on a night shift at a Speke e-commerce warehouse.
First 3 Months: Mark consistently exceeded his pick targets, maintained near-perfect accuracy, and volunteered to help train two new starters. His Warehouse Manager noted his reliability and team spirit.
Month 6: Offered a permanent contract by the client. Mark expressed interest in machinery and was put forward for in-house FLT (Forklift Truck) training, funded by the employer.
Month 12-18: As a certified FLT driver, Mark took on more responsibility in the replenishment and loading bay. He was then promoted to a Team Leader role, overseeing a picking team of 6, conducting start-of-shift briefings, and acting as the first point of contact for operational issues.
"Recruitment Agency London got my foot in the door. The rest was down to showing up on time, hitting my targets, and asking for more responsibility. The pathway was there, I just had to walk it." – Mark, now a Warehouse Team Leader.
