Frequently Asked Questions: Picker/Packer Jobs in Glasgow
What experience do I need for this Picker/Packer role?
While previous experience in a picking, packing, or general warehouse role is highly advantageous, it's not always essential for all positions. Our client provides full training on their specific processes, safety systems, and equipment. What's more important is a strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn. If you have transferable skills from retail, manufacturing, or even event work (like our events crew roles), you could be a great fit. We assess every candidate individually.
Are the shifts flexible? Can I work around other commitments?
Yes, flexibility is one of the key benefits of agency work. The client in Glasgow G2 requires coverage across early, late, and weekend shifts. When you register with us, we discuss your availability in detail. Whether you're a student, a parent, or have another job, we strive to match you with shifts that suit your life. This role is ideal for those seeking immediate start work with adaptable hours, much like the opportunities we list for weekend jobs or temp jobs.
Is there a chance this temporary role could become permanent?
Absolutely. Many of our temporary placements are used by clients as an extended probationary period to find the best permanent staff. If you demonstrate reliability, a positive attitude, and strong performance as a Picker/Packer, the client is very likely to offer a direct permanent contract. We actively facilitate this"temp-to-perm" pathway because it benefits everyone. We've seen many agency workers progress to roles like Warehouse Supervisor within the same company.
How does the pay and payment process work with an agency?
It's simple and transparent. You will submit timesheets to us, which we verify with the client. You are then paid directly by Recruitment Agency London every Friday for all hours worked the previous week (Monday-Sunday). The pay rate for this Glasgow G2 role is clearly advertised (£11.50 - £13.50 p/h), and any overtime will be paid at an enhanced rate. All payments are made via BACS. There are no hidden fees or deductions; you see exactly what you've earned on your payslip.

A Day in the Life: Your Role as a Picker/Packer in Glasgow G2
Morning Shift (6am - 2pm) Breakdown
Starting your day in the G2 warehouse, you'll begin with a team briefing led by the Warehouse Supervisor. This covers daily targets, any priority orders, and safety reminders. You'll then collect your handheld RF scanner—your essential tool for the day.
Peak Picking Period (7am - 11am)
This is when the warehouse is at its busiest, processing orders for the day's first dispatches. You'll navigate the aisles, scanning barcodes to locate items ranging from small electronics to bulkier home goods. Accuracy is paramount; a single mis-pick can delay an entire order. The pace is brisk but manageable, and the modern layout of the G2 facility is designed for efficiency.
You'll quickly learn the layout and develop a rhythm. Colleagues often work in zones, and communication is key—whether it's alerting a team leader to low stock or helping a new starter find an obscure SKU.
Packing & Dispatch Preparation (11am - 1:30pm)
After the morning pick run, your focus shifts to the packing stations. Here, you'll carefully package the items you've gathered, selecting the right box size and protective materials. Each client has specific packaging guidelines you'll be trained on. You'll apply shipping labels, consolidate orders onto pallets, and prepare them for the collection by couriers.
Late Shift (2pm - 10pm) & Career Progression
The late shift often deals with replenishment and preparing for the next day's peak. The atmosphere can be slightly different, with a focus on inventory tasks and resolving any discrepancies from the day's earlier dispatches.
Inventory & Replenishment Focus
You may be involved in"goods in" operations, checking deliveries against manifests and safely storing incoming stock. This is a fantastic way to understand the full supply chain. You'll also restock picking locations from bulk storage, a critical task that ensures the morning team can hit the ground running.
This shift offers excellent opportunities to demonstrate initiative and attention to detail—key traits noticed by Warehouse Managers when considering promotions.
From Temp to Permanent: The Pathway
Many of our temporary workers begin on late shifts. By showing consistency and a proactive attitude, they become indispensable. The progression path is clear:
- Reliable Temp (Months 1-3): Master the core picking/packing duties, achieve high accuracy rates, integrate seamlessly with the team.
- Senior Picker/Packer (Months 3-6): Take on additional responsibilities like training new temps, assisting with cycle counts, or operating more machinery (e.g., PPT).
- Team Lead / Supervisor (6+ Months): With our client's support and often internal training, you can step up to oversee a small team, manage workflow, and handle basic reporting.
Why Glasgow G2 is a Logistics Powerhouse
The G2 postcode, encompassing the heart of Glasgow's city centre and its immediate commercial districts, is a major hub for distribution and fulfilment. Working here places you at the epicentre of Scotland's retail and e-commerce logistics network.
Strategic Transport Links
Warehouses in G2 benefit from unparalleled access to major motorways (M8, M74), central train stations for commuters, and key arterial routes. This allows for rapid dispatch across Scotland and the North of England.
For you, this means easier commuting and the stability that comes from working for a client with a strategic location. The constant flow of goods translates into consistent hours and opportunities for overtime.
Diverse Client Portfolio
Our client in G2 doesn't serve just one sector. You could be handling orders for premium fashion brands one week and essential healthcare supplies the next. This variety keeps the work interesting and builds a highly adaptable skillset.
This diversity also protects against seasonal dips. While some warehouses slow down post-Christmas, a multi-client facility in G2 maintains a steadier workflow year-round.
Investment in Modern Facilities
The logistics spaces in G2 are not old, dilapidated warehouses. Our client operates in a modern unit with features like:
- Energy-efficient LED lighting throughout.
- Well-ventilated, spacious work areas.
- State-of-the-art warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Dedicated, clean welfare facilities.
Success Story: From Temp Picker to Warehouse Supervisor
"I started as a temporary Picker through Recruitment Agency London with no long-term plan. Within 18 months, I was offered a permanent Supervisor role. The agency and the client gave me the training and opportunities I needed to prove myself."
— Jamie C.
Now Warehouse Supervisor, Glasgow G2
Jamie's journey is not unique. He began on a late shift, consistently met his targets, and volunteered for additional training on counterbalance forklift trucks (provided by the client). His Recruitment Agency London consultant highlighted his progress to the site manager, facilitating a formal review that led to his promotion. His story underscores the real temp-to-perm potential these roles hold.
Health, Safety & Your Wellbeing: Our Top Priority
Working in a warehouse is a physical job, and your safety is non-negotiable. Our client in Glasgow G2 operates under strict health and safety regulations, and Recruitment Agency London ensures you are fully prepared and protected.
Comprehensive Induction & Training
- Site-Specific Induction: On your first day, you'll receive a full tour, learn emergency procedures (fire exits, assembly points), and be introduced to key personnel.
- Manual Handling Certification: You'll undergo formal training on safe lifting techniques—how to assess a load, use your legs, and avoid injury. This certification is valuable for your entire career.
- Equipment Training: For any machinery you'll use (pallet trucks, label printers), you'll receive"task-specific" training and supervision until you are deemed competent.
Ongoing Support & Welfare
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): All necessary PPE—safety shoes (often provided via an allowance), high-vis vests, and gloves—is provided. You are expected to wear it at all times on the warehouse floor.
- Open-Door Policy: Both the client's management and your Recruitment Agency London consultant encourage you to report any safety concerns, no matter how small. A near-miss today can prevent an accident tomorrow.
- Wellbeing Facilities: The site offers clean, heated break rooms with microwaves, hot water, and comfortable seating. Taking your full breaks is important and encouraged for sustained performance.
More of Your Questions Answered
What is the dress code for the warehouse?
The dress code is practical and safety-focused. You must wear sturdy, enclosed footwear (preferably steel-toe-capped safety shoes). We provide a high-visibility vest. We recommend comfortable, durable clothing you don't mind getting dusty—think jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. Avoid loose jewellery or clothing that could get caught on equipment. Lockers are usually available to store personal items.
I don't live in G2. Is there travel support or parking?
Many of our workers commute from across Glasgow. The G2 location is exceptionally well-served by public transport, with major bus routes and train stations (like Glasgow Central) within walking distance. The client's facility also has secure, free on-site parking for those who drive. We discuss your commute during registration to ensure the location is viable for you. If you're open to other areas, we can also explore warehouse jobs closer to your home.
How do you support me if I have an issue on site?
You have dual support. Firstly, you can speak to the client's Warehouse Manager or supervisor on site for any day-to-day operational issues. Secondly, and crucially, you have a dedicated consultant at Recruitment Agency London. We are your employer for payroll and your advocate. If you have a concern about hours, pay, treatment, or safety that you're not comfortable raising on site, you call us immediately. We handle it discreetly and professionally. Our relationship with the client is built on ensuring a positive, fair working environment for our temps.
